Gabriel Pinho Brochado

Thank you for your visit! I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of São Paulo (USP). I earned my bachelor's degree in Law with cum laude from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) in 2019.

My research focuses on the phenomenon of democratic backsliding, concentrating on measures and strategies that institutions undertake in response to non-democratic actors within democratic regimes. Through a rigorous examination of these measures, I aim to identify effective strategies for maintaining the integrity of democratic institutions and processes in the face of such threats.

My areas of interest encompass democratic backsliding, political extremism in democracies, electoral governance, electoral systems, constitutions, and constitutional and regional courts.
